Darth Maul from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, the murderous, demon-like duellist with the double-bladed lightsabre, will tell you all about his experiences on the Star Wars set and about his killer moves on FACTS Spring Edition 2016 . It’s bound to be spectacular.
Behind the black and red ‘mask’ lies Ray Park, a Scottish actor, gymnast and martial artist, skilled in the art of Wushu. As a youngster, he was the first Wushu athlete from Europe to place in the top seven in the world.
Park also portrayed Toad in X-Men (2000), Snake Eyes in G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and was stunt coordinator and actor (Reptile, Baraka) in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997), among many other movies and tv series. He also portrayed Edgar in Heroes (2010).
FUN FACT: Ray Park’s first real speaking part came in X-Men (2000) in the part of Toad. Although his character Darth Maul briefly spoke in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), his voice was dubbed over with that of actor Peter Serafinowicz.

Béatrice Tillier
Béatrice was born in 1972 in Lyon, France. She grew up in the fields of the Ardèche, where she came into contact with comics at a fairly young age and would soon discover her love for the art of drawing. Even during her study of literature, she could not put the pencils down, which led her to complete an artistic education in a school for graphic arts. Béatrice practically has ink running through her veins.
She took her first steps into the world of comic books with the triptych Fée et les tendres automates (literal translation: Fairy and the tender robots), together with colleague Téhy and publisher Vents d’Ouest.
Although she has always firmly believed in the existence of fairies, she has made a comic about a dark version of the Santa Claus story with Mon voisin, le Père Noël (My neighbour, Santa Claus). Scriptwriter Philippe Bonifay gives the story extra depth and publisher Casterman published this weird Christmas-y tale.
Driven by passion for details and the will to convey the emotions of her characters as best as possible, Béatrice Tillier is extremely convinced that the path she has chosen is the right one. With her trilogy Le Bois des Vierges (The Maiden Forest), she wants to paint life as a fairy tale-like story, together with Jean Dufaux and publisher Delcourt.
In 2015, Béatrice succeeds Philippe Delaby as the artist of the new series La Complainte des Landes.
If you want to get cosy in the dreamy world of Béatrice’s fantasy creatures, then you should definitely come to FACTS Spring Edition on Saturday! And her husband and colleague Olivier Brazao will also be there to hand out signatures. How romantic!
Olivier Brazao
Olivier was born in Lyon in 1971, the capital of Gaul, and began translating his own stories into comic books when he was eight years old. He was clearly inspired by Franco-Belgians like Asterix, Broussaille, Gil Jourdan, Gaston, Spirou and Johan and Peewit. Later on, those series would make way for Marvel comics, which his parents could acquire through their business.
It’s no surprise that he would study in the drawing school of Émile Cohl in Lyon, where he would eventually graduate as an illustrator.
Together with Thomas Mosdi, he made Les Sheewõwkees, an epic series that lies somewhere between a heroic fantasy story and a legend, in which elves with enormous ears roam tropical islands.
Brazao has also worked on historical comics on the First and Second World War, on the late Middle Ages and Guadeloupe, a French overseas department in the Caribbean. Nowadays, he is working on two additional project in two different styles: realistic and humoristic.
Bonus fact: he is married to Béatrice Tillier, the artist of Fée et tendres automates and Bois des Vierges. She will be joining him on FACTS Spring Edition on Saturday, to hand out signatures of his own. Isn’t that romantic?
June Chung
June Chung is closely related to Jae Lee, another guest for FACTS Spring 2016. And not only by marriage. When she started out in 2003, she was colouring his work on Witchblade, Transformers/G.I. Joe, Batman: Gotham Knights and Hulk.
In 2005, they worked together on Batman: Jekyll and Hyde before Chung became primary colourist on Marvel Zombies and has since become a major force at Marvel Comics.
In a relatively short period of time, she has worked on most of their major titles, including Thor, Spider-Man, Civil War, Iron Man, Marvel Annihilation, Batman/Superman, Before Watchmen: Ozymandias, Transformers/GI Joe and many others.
She will be joining Jae Lee to FACTS Spring Edition 2016, who will also be handing out signatures.
Jae Lee
If you’re really into American comic books, then you simply know who Jae Lee is. He has worked for DC, Marvel and sharpened his pencil for major series like Spider-Man, Captain America, Namo, Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor, The Sentry, Fantastic Four, Hellshock, WildC.A.T.S. Trilogy and Youngblood: Strikefile.
The dark style of this award winning Korean-American comic book artist is almost instantly recognisable. And in 1990, he became one of the youngest artists ever to work for a major publisher. It’s an honour having him at FACTS.
But we’re not the only ones celebrating his talent. He is an Eisner Award-winner for his work on Marvel’s The Inhumans. The art from his collaboration with writer Grant Morrison on Fantastic Four: 1234, was featured in an exhibition at The Society of Illustrators in New York City. And in 2007, Lee was chosen by Stephen King for a six year collaboration on the Dark Tower comics and novels.
Lee’s recent projects include Before Watchmen: Ozymandias and Batman/Superman.
His wife June Chung will be joining him to FACTS Spring Edition, to give signatures of her own.

Activities
Cosplay
Every FACTS edition, we would traditionally hold a fairy tale-like cosplay contest in which we would place our cosplayers on a nice pedestal. The winners would always get a huge applause, a nice prize and eternal fame.
But this year, things will be different. Better. Bigger!
Because for the Spring Edition (2-3 April 2016), we welcome the European Cosplay Gathering (ECG) to FACTS! That means that the winner of our FACTS cosplay contest will become the Belgian representative for the European ECG Cosplay Contest!
In other words: FACTS and BECosplay will be hosting the preliminary competition for the Cosplay version of the European Championship! The Cosplay Eurovision Song Festival, almost!
There will be two categories: ‘Solo’ and ‘Group’. ‘Solo’ means you’ll be dominating the catwalk by yourself. The Group category will only allow sets of two or three people. Both categories will have a winner and both will have a representative for the European contest.
If you think you have what it takes, sign up. Come on, don’t be shy! You will be able to do that soon. More information about how to enter and the rules will follow soon. But if you’d rather enter just for fun, then you’re still welcome, of course. Going national is not obligatory, you know.
See you at FACTS!
EXTRA TIP: Don’t forget to book yourselves a cosplay ticket if you’re coming dressed up in your best cosplay suit. It’s cheaper! And more fun! How could you possibly lose?
Fan Village
Welcome to the FACTS Fan Village! Be prepared to be engulfed by a dream world, as this wonderful place is the realm of the fan clubs. Enjoy an overwhelming mix of sci-fi, horror, anime, fantasy, boardgames, life-size movie props, … and many other interesting ingredients!
Workshops
The workshops for the next FACTS Convention will be listed here.
Last year, our visitors had the chance to learn how to make clay models in a workshop led by Aardman’s expert model maker George Watson. And in another workshop, visitors could learn how to design their own comic characters from comic veteran Gary Erskine.
Who knows what skills you will be able to hone or acquire in our next workshops, 2-3 April 2016?
Maybe how Sheldon Cooper’s version of rock-paper-scissors works?
Or how to battle Jedi?
Or how to become king or queen of Westeros?
We will tell you soon. Stay tuned!
